It’s been a busy few weeks in the sporting calendar for our wonderful Nettlestone children.
Our football teams have been making amazing progress on the pitch. On Friday, the U9 boys team play their semifinal against St Mary’s Primary School and our U11 girls take on Queensgate in the quarter-final. We wish them the best of luck and hope they progress.
Our U11 boys have already made the final of the league and take on Arreton in the semifinal of the cup competition. Best of luck to the boys too!
We have also had some outstanding results in two recent cross country competitions. At Oakfield, we managed to score the overall lowest score meaning we were the winners! We also competed at Newchurch. We won the U9 girls section and got silver medals in the U11 boys and U11 girls.
Next week is another huge week for sport. We have a mainland football tournament in Southampton on Tuesday, the U11 boys semifinal on Wednesday and the IOW Cross Country finals at Northwood on Friday.
Mr McInnes and Mr Eighteen
What a fantastic game for everyone involved in both schools. We finally came out victorious in the end winning 2:1 on penalties!
All of the boys put in fantastic effort on a very bobbly pitch, I felt like we had the best chances of the game but just could not finish. There were some great individual performances from Joe Caddick and Gabe Wells who kept our back line strong with Gabe scoring the equaliser in the last 10 seconds of extra time to take us to penalties.
Joe Caddick put in a fantastic performance in goal for the penalties saving 4 out of 5 to win us the game!
Man of The Match has to go to Gabe for putting in a great defensive display then scoring the equaliser to take us to penalties!
We also received this response from the opposition after the game;
“Just wanted to say well done to your boys today, I thought both teams did really well in testing conditions, and it was a shame anyone had to lose.
Good luck in the final.”
All of the boy’s should be really proud of how far we have got and what we have achieved this season.
Roll on THE FINAL!
Mr Eighteen 🙂
Arreton 0-3 Nettlestone (Noah, Finlay, Rowenn)
What a fantastic result for the U11 Boys Football team in their league quarter-final match, winning 3-0 in superb style.
We absolutely dominated the game from start to finish with some lovely, free-flowing football all over the pitch and everyone working hard for each other.
The first goal was a thing of beauty. Some excellent skill from Rowenn to get the ball to Finlay, who flicked it over to Noah who then hit a first time volley into the bottom corner. Further goals followed from Finlay and Rowenn, with both superbly finishing against a very strong Arreton goalkeeper.
Everyone should be so proud of themselves after this game, we now progress into the semi-finals!
5-0 win! Well done girls!
It was another fantastic performance from our girls football team as they beat a strong Bembridge team by five goals to nil. Amelia and Samantha both scored one each and Ella scored a hat trick. We have one more league game after Christmas against Wootton.
Team – Leigh, Lylah, Alisha, Emma, Pearl, Amelia, Ella, Abi, Grace, Samantha.
Priory School 0-9 NETTLESTONE
A great result for the Under 11 Boys Football team, winning convincingly against The Priory 9 nil in their final group league game. A fantastic individual performance from Noah who came on as a sub at half time and scored a wonderful hat trick! We are now through to the quarter finals, BRING IT ON!
Team – Joe C, Joe H (1), Gabe, Ben (1), Elliot (1), Rowenn (1), Finlay (1), Noah (3), Freddie (1)
It was a very close game as we took on Broadlea in the girls cup. They scored first before Amelia equalised with a minute to go to take the game to extra time.
Broadlea scored what proved to be the winning goal and they progress through to the next round. Well done to them!
Team – Leigh, Samantha, Isis, Lylah, Sophie, Pearl, Alisha, Amelia, Grace and Abi.
Girl of the game – Amelia M for an all action performance!
